Operation Dignity

One of our Fifth grader classes has chosen to work on a service project this year that will assist homeless and formerly homeless veterans in Alameda and the greater Bay Area. They will be supporting the work of Operation Dignity.

Operation Dignity assists homeless veterans and their families. They provide emergency, transitional and permanent housing for homeless veterans in Alameda County. They also offer comprehensive support services, nutritious meals and a strong peer community. Their goal is to help veterans rediscover hope and provide the tools needed to live a self-sufficient and stable life. They are providing a hand up, not a hand out.

Operation Dignity is always in need of hygiene kits for their Mobile Outreach Unit as well as "starter sets" for veterans moving into transitional housing right here on Alameda Point. In order to help with this need we will be collecting unused small size hygiene products throughout the year. Soaps, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. can be given to any 5th grader or can be dropped into the basket near the Pod 4 door any time throughout this year. Be sure to ask your friends, neighbors, and family members to help as well. Thank you for your support!

Animal Shelter Fundraiser

The Destination Imagination team, Smartees, are doing a project for the Alameda Animal Shelter. They are raising money by collecting aluminum cans and plastic bottles that they will turn in for the redemption. Money raised will be donated to the Angel Fund of the Alameda Animal Shelter. Please bring cans & bottles and put them in the bins near the school entrance.

🎨 Art & Music Show 2015

Thursday, 26 March 2015

March is national Youth in Art Month & the theme for California is "Art Builds Bridges". The show is a time for each class to display their talents. Every class picks one project that's completed this school year. We also suggest creating "Artist's Statements" - such as, "What is your inspiration for your art work?" "What influences your work?" "What does your art express?" "What makes your art unique?" "What does your art means to you?" "What motivates you to create art?" "What emotions or ideas are you trying to convey?" "How does art make you feel?" "Why is art important?" "How can art be powerful?" "What tools & materials do you use?"

Volunteers [parents & students] are needed to make the Book Fair a successful event!! You can sign-up to volunteer via the real time link to a Google spreadsheet. If you are entering your information via an iPad or Smart Phone, then please hit the Submit button.

Volunteers will receive a $5 book fair credit for every volunteer shift worked. This is also a great opportunity for Middle School kids to earn community service hours by volunteering at the fair. Got questions? Please contact Kimberly & Paul Skuta, PTA Book Fair Chairs.

This is a really fun event that the kids look forward too every year. Also, approximately 55 cents of every dollar spent at the book fair comes back to the school in the form of books & educational material. Walk & Roll to School Day

Wednesday, 8 October 2014

Please walk bike, skate, or ride your scooter to school. If using a vehicle to get to Earhart is an absolute must, please consider carpooling.

The purpose of Walk & Roll is to reduce the amount of cars on the road. Please try & do your part! Let's make this the best Walk & Roll ever!!!

Why Walk & Roll to School
To teach children safe walking behaviors, such as how to cross streets, & how to select safe routes to school
To see how easy & enjoyable it is for adults & children to spend healthy, active time together doing the world's simplest exercise - walking
To identify specific steps to create more walkable communities such as advocating for more crosswalks, sidewalks, crossing guards & better driver behavior

A special thank you to all the PTA Walk Coordinators, community volunteers & local businesses who helped make this year's event a huge success & particularly to all the kids & parents who enthusiastically participated.

Volunteer for Morning White Zone Drop off

Let's improve the morning drop off congestion at Earhart School. Part of the issue stems from parents parking or idling in the white zones, preventing additional drop off. This caused a HUGE back up on Packet Landing. If a few parents were out in the morning, assisting with drop off we hope it will speed the whole process up & get more children to school on time! We hope that if we do this for just a couple of weeks that we'll develop good habits and a system that makes drop off easier.

Duties include:

  • Walk along the white zones [especially on Packet Landing]
  • Remind parents that parking & idling are not okay
  • Please sign up now via Google Doc

    Back to School Night

This is for parents only, so please make the appropriate arrangements. It starts from 7pm in the Multi-Use room & then moves onto the individual classrooms until 8pm. It is a great time to meet the teacher & explore all that is going on in the classroom.

    First Day of School

    Monday, 25 August 2014

Welcome back Earhart Families! From August 25 - 29, school schedule will be as follow:

    Grades 1 - 5: 8:20am - 12:30pm
    Kindergarten: 8:20am - 11:40am
    Transitional Kindergarten: 8:30am - 11:20am

Just a friendly reminder to all that DO NOT park in the school parking lot, Harbor Bay Club or the white zone. You will be ticketed if you left your car unattended in the white zone.

    Welcome Back Night

    Monday, 18 August 2014 | 5pm - 7pm

In early August, after you receive an enrollment information letter from AUSD and before our welcome back night, please go to AUSD Parent Portal to fill out forms, update information & read documentation.

On our welcome back night, please pick up your first day packets & learn your class assignment. Bring a picnic & enjoy the evening on the "green."
